Busy “in the Arctic”

So, for the past couple of days, i have been rather busy! First of all, as you all know; i have a full-time job during the week! So little is to say, i get to use most of my waking hours in a productive way - kind of. 9-5 in office, about 4-5 hours of game development when i get home.

Either way, yes! I’ve been working on Arctic Submerged, making some preparations for the upcoming launch later this fall, finalizing some technical stuff, as well as doing some design. The game is not “done” by any means, but i can see the end of the production line, before the release. Getting there; FAST!

Implemented In-app purchase

After much thought, i have chosen to implement in-app purchases, and not implement ads. This way, there won’t be any ads for you to view whilst playing, to distract you from the game itself. This, however, leaves few alternatives left for the app to generate some type of income. Sure, you have the paid premium segment, but i feel like that would limit the reach of this app by A TON. So, the next best thing: In-game shop. The shop at this point, only offers in game currency for purchase. Meaning: you can farm the same type of stuff that you’ll be able to buy. Buying it just makes it more convenient. In other words; No. This game is NOT pay-to-win.

this called for some designs!

I had to make some illustrations of the gold, and i’ve also made some graphical effects that will be illustrated on screen when the player opens the shop in-game, and also text-elements to showcase the price.

These are the three (3) items currently made for the Arctic Submerged In-game store. Piles of gold, different sizes, different amounts. Design-wise, i’m satisfied with how it turned out. I re-used the in-game icon and model for the gold coin already in the game, so that it would look and feel familiar to the potential buyer. I modelled this graphic in a 3D environment, and just altered the original model through perspective and orientation.

Having fun - but forgets to game!

I do - truly - love doing these things. The scripting, logic, design, all of it. It’s really fun. My problem is, i can’t seem to get “enough hours” during my day. So if any of you know where to apply for more than 24 hours (i mean, i could do with 30 - not gonna ask for too much!) - hit me up! I would like to play games more often - because i think that’s fun too - but this development stuff keeps me happily occupied most of the time! Of well, we’ll get back to the games later this fall i believe. I will try to spend some hours during my weekends playing!

Psssst… did you know?

I have a post regarding how to implement this kind of in-game purchase shop system on my Technical Blog! If you’d like to implement this into your game as well, i have supplied both a walk-through AND pictures of the scripts i used to make this work.
