the subtle art of not giving a f*ck

Wow. I’ve just read what i believe to be one of the most important books in my life so far. My life? My generation! This book is worth it’s weight in gold x1000. As i predicted, it was a “calling a shovel a shovel”-kind of book, shedding light on some of the issues that we all might struggle with from time to time… But it’s so much more than that!

Relatable word magic

Mark Manson’s way of writing is refreshing to say the least - he actually writes the way that most of us talk; not seeming like a “highborn upper class know-it-all” using a written language that is so darn formal, that you can’t read their books without wearing a proper suit or elegant dress.

Mr.Manson has written a book that is understandable, deep, personal and eye-opening. By using plenty of examples from his own life, tied to theories, science and history. It’s woven like a cozy word-blanket you don’t want to put away when the night comes, and it’s time to sleep - it’s that good.

The book simplifies some of the more complex situations we as humans are faced with throughout our lives, that being; trauma, socialization, the ever-chasing need to perform well and win at everything, to mention a few subjects.

This should have been part of the curriculum in high school or a book you get handed when you turn 18.

My favorite

The beauty of poker is that while luck is always involved, luck doesn’t dictate the long-term results of the game. A person can get dealt terrible cards and beat someone who was dealt great cards.

Sure, the person who gets dealt great cards has a higher likelihood of winning the hand, but ultimately the winner is determined by—yup, you guessed it—the choices each player makes throughout play.

I see life in the same terms. We all get dealt cards. Some of us get better cards than others. And while it’s easy to get hung up on our cards, and feel we got screwed over, the real game lies in the choices we make with those cards, the risks we decide to take, and the consequences we choose to live with.

People who consistently make the best choices in the situations they’re given are the ones who eventually come out ahead in poker, just as in life. And it’s not necessarily the people with the best cards.
— Mark Manson, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life

Should you read it?

Yes, without a doubt! This book is suitable for all young adults - as well as “adult-adults”. It offers some great reflections on life, on goals and a sort of healthy reality-check. Also, the wording in this book is SPOT ON. It was not only educational and informative, but funny, interesting and honest too. Hands down, a must read!

Hi! I like games, and think that they’re the ultimate form of art; combining music, color and story - all in one product.

Trying to create a game development company here - brb!
