Mountains of fun

In the deep waters of the Arctic (Submerged), i wanted to introduce some visual elements to capture attention, but also create some atmosphere whilst you’re diving in the cold, cold waters. I have already made some models to represent the underwater landscapes: Seamounts. Underwater mountains. But i thought they needed some more flavor added to them. As most people can agree (i hope!) some seasoning is rarely wrong. You need it!

Therefore, i present to you, some new models of the underwater mountains to be included in Arctic Submerged:

New models

Scaled up for the blog, these images will look super-sharp as underwater models in the game. A spaceship crashed (which also will have an animation btw! flashing lights!) into the mountainside, as well as sunken ruins, lost to time ages ago (yes, i love the concept of Atlantis!).

These models will be part of the randomly generated objects throughout the map whilst you play. My plan is to use the same hitbox as i’ve used for the other similar seamount models. Although, i have been thinking of maybe implementing some sort of hideout / hidden entrance that the players actually could access or “dive through” in another model… But we’ll see, this is just an idea!

importance of variety

As with most things that has to do with entertainment, variety is super important. Most people think variety needs to be a “night-n-day difference”; but that’s far from the case. A more simplistic and less “radical” view on variety often blends better into the already established atmosphere or feel of the product.

Look at the seamount models i just made, for instance. It’s based upon the same mountain models - just with additions made onto them. Meaning that the players can easily identify the primary design and function of it, but finding the additional shapes and colors added as a “fresh coat of paint” amongst very usual and similar objects in the game. Feels familiar - but looks interesting and new.

Abbi

Hi! I like games, and think that they’re the ultimate form of art; combining music, color and story - all in one product.

Trying to create a game development company here - brb!
